For the record, I still prefer having a real book in my hands - somehow it still feels more relaxing reading from a physical book.Saying that, I am at a point where I can't move around with a library at my back (I don't think anyone can). So here comes the Kindle.Size is a good balance between readability and ease of holding in one hand (there is a grip area on the right side that also holds the navigation buttons), so you can read for an extended period of time whenever and wherever. I usually read for about half an hour on the train, and I can do so easily regardless of whether I am sitting or not.Battery life is also amazing, as I can use it on a daily basis and only need to charge after a couple of weeks.Downloading e-books are also easy and quick, so I am quite happy in that department as well.Overall, I am very satisfied with this purchase.

Straight up - let me tell you this Kindle is really nice to hold. Well balanced in the hand and looks quite striking with its burnished silver finish.

Touch screen is nice and responsive - as is the system itself. I like the turning control feature that reorients the page, depending on which hand you're holding it in / which side you're laying on in bed (my Kindle Paperwhite couldn't do that).

With the Wi-fi capability, it's dead easy to browse the Kindle Store directly from the device. Books are also super quick to download. Sometimes I finish a book and I have a new one to read within a couple of minutes.

Resolution is fantastic and easy to read in any light. Great to read in bed just before going to sleep too - without having to have a bedside lamp on. The 'warm' screen option keeps my brain in low-res mode (minimal stimulation) and when I get tired enough, I just press the button, place it on the bedside table and drift off to sleep within a minute or too (and I'm typically an awful sleeper)! Also great if you wake up at 1am and need help getting back to sleep with minimal stimulation (without disturbing your partner). Usually puts me back to sleep within 20 minutes (rather than the usual 2 hours of laying there thinking about work etc.)

Battery life is exceptional.

Great to whip out in a waiting room (Doctor's or Dentist's etc.). Especially in these strange times where magazines aren't available in many waiting rooms. And I like that it keeps me off Social Media and away from my phone - which is what I'd usually be reaching for in that situation.

Slips nicely even into my smaller handbags or a backpack when I ride my scooter - so I can always take it with me to a cafe or to sit in a park somewhere.

I'd honestly say this Kindle is worth every cent.

I loved my Kindle Voyage (still have it and still use it when i can) and dreaded having to replace it. I took a chance on the Oasis and have now been happily using it for about a year. It took no time to get used to having the extra weight on one side - in fact I think it makes it easier to pick up and hold. I was able to rearrange the pagepress buttons to replicate what I was used to with my Voyage model, and then there was no stopping me. My only issue is the battery life. I have to recharge about once per week, which still isn't such a big deal, but not as good as previous Kindles. (I do read a lot...)

Received the latest Oasis after my Voyage was bricked during a software update. The Voyage was good but the Oasis is even better. The large 7” screen is very crisp, and the ability to control warmth is amazingly good. This really makes a difference on the contrast and subjectively feels easier on the eyes. It looks even more like paper than I imagined. The uniformity of illumination is excellent too - you cannot see any brightness variation across the entire display. Superb.
I love the physical design of the Oasis, where you can grab the thicker part with one hand, without covering the display. The buttons have just the right feel, however they are a tiny bit louder than ideal (I’m waiting for my wife to complain). Don’t get me wrong, the buttons are quiet, but not as quiet as the pressure-sensitive feature of the Voyage. Having the weight on one side reduces its tendency to want to twist out of your hand. The build quality is definitely premium compared to your standard kindle.
Is it worth a $200 (AUD) premium over the paperwhite? This is a hard question. I got a 20% discount because of the Voyage failure, and I read every single day, so I’m glad I spent the extra money. For most casual readers, who don’t mind the white/grey display of the paperwhite, I would save your money.

Purchased mine in late 2019 and loved loved loved it - ergonomics, lighting, buttons and bath-reading assurance. The battery life increasingly became an issue, needing more frequent recharge and not recharging fully. Now in 2023 it's given up the ghost - won't recharge, no light up, stuck on 'low battery' screen. None of the fixes have worked.
Hoping for a next gen Oasis with a battery that matches the rest of its fabulosity - noting that Amazon won't accept trade-ins from Australia! (boo hiss)

I absolutely love my kindle. Its given me a chance to read books I've been interested in previously but didn't want to have as a physical copy.
